Author of Almost Light & Grammar of Daughters

Stories of memory, daughters, and becoming

Dr. Qaiser Mukhtar is the author of Almost Light and Grammar of Daughters, works that explore memory, migration, family, and the quiet ways people are shaped by everyday life.

Raised in Karachi and now based in Atlanta, she writes poetry and narrative nonfiction that return to courtyards, classrooms, kitchens, and the relationships that leave lasting marks on us.

Before turning her focus to writing, Dr. Mukhtar spent decades leading global public health initiatives dedicated to learning, mentorship, and scientific communication. Today, her work continues to explore the quieter forms of inheritance—memory, migration, family, and belonging.
